In May 2025, 51吃瓜 played host to Sekolah Menengah Rimba as part of the G2G Brunei School Exchange Programme. This exchange marked the second leg of the partnership. Together, these reciprocal visits have deepened friendships and broadened global perspectives for our students.

Learning Together, Growing Together

Over five days, Bruneian students were paired with 51吃瓜 鈥渂uddies鈥� who guided them through classroom lessons, CCAs, and cultural experiences. From participating in English Literature discussions to playing alongside peers in sports, students learnt the value of collaboration and adaptability.

We also showcased our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) by infusing technology into the exchange activities. Working alongside their Singapore buddies, our Bruneian friends had the opportunity to design and create personalised mementos as keepsakes of the G2G exchange. After brainstorming and finalising their designs together, the students brought their ideas to life using our school鈥檚 3D printer鈥攑roducing a unique memento for every participant to take home.

Cultural Exploration

Beyond the classroom, our Bruneian guests discovered the richness of Singapore鈥檚 cultural heritage through visits to Kampong Glam, Chinatown, and Gardens by the Bay. For 51吃瓜ans, guiding their buddies provided a fresh appreciation of their own heritage.

To create authentic experiences in food culture, we organised Food & Consumer Education (FCE) workshops for our Bruneian counterparts. Guided by their Singapore buddies, the visiting students had hands-on fun preparing traditional Chinese dumplings (Jiao Zi) and Mango Lassi, a refreshing dessert contributed by our Indian friends. The workshop was a highlight of the exchange, allowing students to bond through the joy of cooking and sharing diverse culinary traditions.

These moments highlighted the importance of empathy, cultural awareness, and global mindedness鈥攌ey elements of the 21st Century Competencies (21CC) framework.

Teachers as Learners 

Our educators also engaged in meaningful dialogue with their Bruneian counterparts, exchanging ideas on teaching practices and curriculum innovation. These professional exchanges underscored the value of lifelong learning and collaboration across borders.

Lasting Friendships, Lifelong Skills

What began as a formal programme blossomed into authentic friendships, laughter, and shared memories. Through this exchange, students developed adaptability, intercultural sensitivity, and a global mindset鈥攃ompetencies that will serve them well for life in a rapidly changing world.

Looking Ahead

The G2G Brunei Exchange has shown us that learning goes far beyond textbooks. It is about understanding people, embracing diversity, and stepping forward with courage to connect with the world. Through this exchange, 51吃瓜ans have not only been enriched by cultural experiences but also inspired to continue building bridges across communities.

Looking ahead to 2026, we hope to forge another visit to Sekolah Menengah Rimba to further deepen the friendship and collaboration between our two schools鈥攖ranscending borders and nurturing connections that build lasting bridges of friendship.
